Greetings from the 2010 Ambassador
On behalf of the MIlverton Agricultural Society
I encourage everyone to come out and enjoy the 148th Milverton
Fair with this
year’s theme being “Be a Locavore”. The hours
of hard work and dedication placed into this annual event from
all the volunteers creates events of interest to all and should
not be missed. Although I may not live in Milverton it has been
like a second home for me for many years. Attending the fair was
a highlight of the year, going to the cattle and horse shows, watching
the Ambassador competitions and dreaming of one day competing.
Knowing many past ambassadors being crowned Milverton Fair Ambassador
for 2010 was a dream come true and a great honour. Highlights from
the fair this year would be the Tractor pulls, baby show, and of
course the MIlverton Agricultural Society fries! The fair is a
local attraction for the exhibits, livestock shows, watch quality
entertainment and also a great gathering place to socialize and
celebrate another year in our great community. Although my reign
is still in the early stages I am looking forward to the upcoming
year and representing Milverton to the best of my ability. Throughout
the year I will represent this amazing community in the District
8 competition, Miss Midwest competition and the Canadian National
Exhibition. I am looking forward to the three day OAAS convention
to be held in February at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto. This
convention will provide informative seminars, entertainment, and
a chance to meet the ambassadors from all over Ontario; as well
to get to know our Milverton Agricultural Society executive better
and gain an understanding of the preparation and organization of
a successful fair in the coming year. I would like to thank the
Milverton Agricultural Society for this wonderful experience and
for all the support they have given me. I would strongly encourage
others to compete for the 2011 ambassador; I assure you will have
a rewarding and wonderful experience. So bring your families and
friends to the 148th Milverton Fair and Be a Locavore.
Sincerely,
Janine Smith
2010 Milverton Fair Ambassador
ERIKA RIDDELL
On behalf of the Canadian National Exhibition, I would like to
extend best wishes to each and every competitor and to all of the
people who have supported and volunteered to keep this wonderful
tradition of the Milverton Fair going for 148 years.
The Ambassador competition is an important element of our fair,
and I encourage local youth, ages 17-23 years old to step forward
and participate in this wonderful opportunity. Becoming an ambassador
is an important role, as representatives of your community and
local Agricultural society you are helping to promote the importance
of Ontario fairs by sharing your knowledge and ideas while at the
same time building new relationships.
I enjoyed a fun filled 18 days at the Canadian National Exhibition
in Toronto, staying at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel. I was put
up in a really nice suite, overlooking Lake Ontario and Center
Island, wow what a difference from my bedroom window at home where
I look out onto farmers fields and pastures filled with horses.
My first day began with the phone ringing off the hook from newspaper,
radio and television reporters. I made my way to the Exhibition
for a 5-hour photo shoot, with a professional photographer. Over
the following two weeks, I enjoyed attending various events where
I gave best wishes and promoted the importance of Ontario fairs
by sharing my experience as an Ambassador. I had an action packed
two and a half weeks at the Ex, where I was super busy each day.
I attended so many events, to name a few: cooking shows, Rising
Star talent search, the daily Mardi Gras parade, The Michael Jackson
tribute band, Down with Webster concert, the miniature horse show,
The SuperDog show, baseball games, the Canada soccer game, Fernandez
the Comedy Hypnotist, and the Air Show. I enjoyed spending lots
of time at Kids World and the Farm talking to children and adults
about fairs and agriculture. I would like to thank the Milverton
Agricultural Society for making this experience possible. I can
guarantee that the experience of being an ambassador will be one
of the best you ever have. Best wishes to this year’s ambassador,
and if anyone has any questions please feel free to contact me,
I’d love to help!
Congratulations and good luck to each competitor!
Sincerely,
Miss. Erika Riddell
2010/2011 CNE Ambassador of the Fairs
Greetings
from the 2010 Little Miss Milverton
I
am very proud to have won the title of Little Miss Milverton. The
2010 Milverton Fair was really fun – there were so many great
activities. I missed being in the Fair parade (because I was competing
at the Horse Show!) But, I did get to ride in the Santa Claus parade
and that was really fun – there were lots of people out even
though it was cold! I am looking forward to attending more things
in 2011 – especially Earth Day – as the environment
is a very important topic. In July, I will be going to Walkerton
to compete again – so wish me luck, I will do my best to
represent Milverton. Have fun making things to enter in the 2011
Fair and maybe even think about running for Royalty - it is a great
experience!
