President’s Message
As President for the 2011 Milverton Fair, it is my
pleasure to welcome all family and friends, as we encourage you
to “Be A Locavore” at the 2011 Milverton Fair.
All through 2011, the Milverton Ag Society has continued the theme
of supporting the local community; this year encouraging everyone
to be a Locavore. This is a relatively new word, but you can consider
yourself a “Locavore” if you are a consumer of what
your local community has to offer. Milverton is a very diverse
community, offering delicious local food and agriculture, great
community events put on by the local service groups and long standing
businesses that allow Milverton to thrive.
The Milverton Agricultural Society is definitely a Locavore! This
year we are continuing to feature local produce, products and vendors
at the 4th Annual Earth Day celebration. Milverton’s Locavores
were on display every Thursday, all summer long down at the fair
grounds, as we hosted another successful Farmers Market.
Whenever you make it down to the fair grounds, be sure to check
out our new home. The Milverton Agricultural Society has worked
very hard to get this project up and running and on it’s
way to completion. A lot of people have volunteered their time,
efforts and money to get this great looking building off the ground,
but a special thanks to the Building Committee, Tim and Helen Dowd,
Ed Hasenpflug, Murray Matheson and Chris Varey. A big ‘Thank
You’ to the companies, service groups, clubs and individuals
who have donated specifically to the building project, as none
of this would be possible without your generous gifts. In addition
to these donations, I want to thank the businesses and community
minded people who are “Friends of the Fair”. It is
because of these generous donations that the fair is a success
every year. Take some time to discover who these fair supporters
are as they deserve your support in return.
While I am saying my thank yous, I must thank all the volunteers
that have helped the Milverton Agricultural Society again this
year. I am always amazed at how generous the community of Milverton
is with it’s time and willingness to step up and do whatever
needs to be done. The Ag Society is very reliant on volunteer efforts
and I am very grateful and thankful to all those who helped at
our events during 2011.
2011 is my last year as President, and the last two years have
flown by! I have enjoyed my time serving the community of Milverton
and have met many great new people and made some lasting friendships
A big thank you to the directors for a great year and always being
energetic and full of new ideas. Thank you to my employer, Leis
Feed & Supply, for supporting my role with the Ag Society.
Finally, thank you to my wife Allison and our new son Reid, for
being so supportive and encouraging and to the rest of my family
for always being there to help when called upon.
Please enjoy the 2011 Milverton Fair, and always remember to “Be
a Locavore”.
